Don't Forget To Take A Break!

It’s a simple fact that sometimes we forget to take a break and rest. Rest means different things to different people. Rest comes in many forms and can be physical or emotional or both.

Getting enough rest is essential for being your most productive self.

A lack of sufficient rest neurologically sets off the sympathetic nervous system, the anxiety and stress response. This results in shorter attention spans, distractibility, and irritability. Also, a lack of rest can surprisingly lead to difficulty sleeping. Other results might be a change in eating patterns, chest tightness, stomach issues, or headaches.

How do you know that you’re getting the right kind of rest? The result is that it makes you happy and calm.

Audrey Tang, ( psychologist, well-being expert, and author), says: “If we’re under-stimulated, we need something calming.”

“Rest is about clearing space. When we clear space, we’re either healing, repairing, or regrouping. The act of scheduling rest reminds you that you’re as important as the other things on your to=do list.” She maintains that small rest breaks throughout the day are best.

Here are five ways to regroup and revitalize:

Physical-yoga, a warm bath, or a massage, are some ways to rest, relax, and nurture your body. Nurturing your mind by reading or watching a favorite show, can be restorative.

Mental-physical activity can actually help you rest your mind. Indulging in a favorite activity such as walking, running, or swimming, can help clear out the ‘cobwebs.’

Social-extrovert or Introvert, most of us need a break for being alone with ourselves to read, meditate, or do whatever we like to do. Being social constantly can be draining, so we need time to be alone with our thoughts

Sensory-your surroundings should suit your sensory needs. Whether you need a quiet environment or quiet music, whatever you find soothing is what you need to seek out.

Creative-what fills your creative needs? Whether it’s art, music, or another creative pursuit, do what suits you best.

Life is fluid, so tailor your rest breaks to match the needs of the day.
