A Few Short Notes On Being More Mindful

A great way to tap into the life of your mind is to find ways to surround yourself with quiet. I know that can be hard with kids, dogs, busy offices, etc. Think about times when you can be alone. Believe it or not, one of the best places for quiet is inside your car when you’re by yourself. The quiet attention you give to the task of driving can take you out of your constant daily thoughts, and give the task at hand your full attention.

Another place for some peace and quiet is the bathroom. Hang a Do Not Disturb sign on the door and enjoy a quiet soak in the bathtub, or a soothing shower. The sound of water running is calming.

Taking a meditative walk is a great way to find some quiet. Listening to the soothing and gentle sounds of nature can be very soothing. The regular rhythm of your feet connecting with the ground is also relaxing.

When you’re enjoying your quiet moments, check in with yourself. How are you feeling? Are you taking the opportunity to observe your thoughts?

Is your mind cluttered with runaway thoughts? Try using deep breaths to let go of some of those thoughts, and free some space in your mind.

Finding some daily rituals that settle you into your day also helps with relaxing and quieting your mind. Try starting the day with a healthy breakfast and some soothing music to get your day started.

And of course doing some yoga and/or meditation are ways to take good care of yourself and finding some space and some quiet in your day.
