A Few Thoughts On Optimism

I’m an optimist, and I feel that it’s the preferred way to go through life. Depending on circumstances, I know it can be hard to keep a positive attitude going when things get complicated and difficult.

A big part of optimism is resilience, which can be compared to a rubber ball being squeezed and squished and rebounding to its regular shape. Resilience is protection against negative events.

11% + is reflective of how much longer optimists may live compared to non-optimists, according to studies. Another interesting result is that 56% is the percentage by which optimistic salespeople outsell their pessimistic colleagues.

Here are some advantages to developing an optimistic outlook:

  • Optimists are more resilient.

  • They tend to make successful entrepreneurs.

  • Optimists experience better health outcomes.

  • Optimists live longer.

  • They’re more satisfied with their relationships.

  • They experience a state of increased happiness.

  • A result of optimism is enhanced overall well-being.

Optimism is a buffer against spiraling into negativity. It diminishes the mental toll of challenging situations, and helps people from giving into negative thoughts. Optimists are more likely to engage in constructive problem-solving, thus feeling less helpless. This leads to more confidence and higher self-esteem.

Finally, optimism assists in the development of a growth mindset=that is, believing that intelligence and ability can evolve through dedication and hard work. Optimists have this natural connection because they view challenges  for personal development instead of insurmountable obstacles.

Having the focus on best results and seeing the positives in daily life are key to being an optimist.
