What Makes You Go 'Argh?'

The morning coffee spills! Your favorite lipstick melted in the car! The heel just broke off your shoe! Argh!

A day when you find yourself saying ‘argh’ is shaping up to be a bad day.

When a day starts heading in that direction, I feel that everything starts falling apart. That’s what my mindset evolves to.

‘Mindset’ is defined as ‘the established set of attitudes held by someone.’

Ways to manage your mindset are through meditation and guided imagery. Meditation is an ‘in the moment’ focus on what’s happening right now. That focus helps lead to you getting out of your own way in terms of how you function throughout the day.

Why is mindset so important? A strong and positive state of mind is vital in the development of a healthy self-esteem. Self-talk within a positive mindset reinforces our most personal beliefs and feelings about ourselves.

Here are some mindset strategies to help support you:

  • Acknowledge your emotions. Doing that helps reduce their intensity. Let your thoughts flow and be transient.

  • Deep breathing reduces stress. Stretching loosens muscles, stimulates blood flow, and improves cognitive functioning.

Design a calming home environment for yourself. Good lighting, a calm and quiet atmosphere, and soothing music are essential for a calm and positive mindset.

Next time your hear yourself say ‘argh’ take stock of these suggestions and see how you can reframe for a better and stronger mindset leading you forward to a great day!
