Tips and Tricks for Improving Confidence at Work

It’s a strange thing, but we often bring negative personal baggage to a job that we have trained for, become experts at, and we actually do know what we’re doing.

As a musician, I can relate. I used to struggle with negative self-talk in lessons or onstage.

Part of the dichotomy is what’s called ‘the imposter syndrome.’What is that? As Widipedia states: “Imposter syndrome ...is a psychological pattern in which an individual doubts their accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a ‘fraud.’ Despite external evidence of their competence, those experiencing this phenomenon remain convinced that they are frauds, and do not deserve all they have achieved…”

A way to combat this:

  • Make a list of positive work accomplished on the job.

  • Turn that into a word cloud.

Make a list of ways to improve work performance.

Note: A word cloud is a graphic of words that relate to a main word/idea that’s typically in the middle of the graphic.

I’m happy to help you flesh out these ideas on how to feel more confident at work.
